There are lots of amazing reasons Greek was and is the best
and why I think it might actually hold up (pop references aside). First off it’s dealing with the Gay community
and specifically Calvin’s character was never heavy handed nor did it feel
forced. He just felt like that friend you have that was gay and that was
figuring that world out, while also trying to figure out who he was. It is sad
that this is even worth mentioning but Calvin was not simply the gay best
friend but a gorgeous character.
Catherine oh how I love Catherine her last few episodes when
she is with well let me not wreck that loveliness for you but they are
priceless. And how they bring her back in is amazing. Quote it “please do not interrupt
me while I am waving at my good friend Cassie.” I want to grow up to be Catherine.
Back to those pop culture references they are magical and
amazing and mirror that exact time in the world so well. And well they are smart, so smart that you can’t
catch all of them at once. They mention all the tv shows you watched from Full House to Shark Week to The Hills, the books you had to read and read for Fun (To Kill a Mockingbird, Eat Pray Love, etc.), quite a few references to Jolie and of course Entertainment Weekly (EW).
Beaver if you don’t like Beaver you were probably raised by
wolves and well they are ashamed of you. I know I am supposed to be in love
with Cappie because well he is Cappie I get it wanderer, romantic, Johnny Depp
vibe- Cappie. However Beaver is the one.
Ashleigh is the best friend on TV I believe ever, she is supportive
and understanding without letting you be complacent. And the outfits oh the
outfits, there are no words for the outfits.
She has a shirt that has a cloud on one sleeve and a rainbow on the
other. Which sounds horrendous but is perfect, because Ashleigh is that girl
that you love too much to hate on and can actually pull it off.
The show is of course an exaggeration of college life, but
it is the college life you want. It works because the people at the
beginning are completely different at the
end but still themselves- in only the way college can make you. It so perfectly captured that time when your friends are your family and you are terrified of everything yet still naive enough to be excited about everything too.
